The village Maria Alm (ca. 2.076 inhabitants, 802 m above sea level) is located about 5 km east of Saalfelden. Maria Alm is well-known for its summer and winter tourism since the 1960s. One of the most famous districts of Maria Alm is 'Hinterthal', in which the former German Federal Chancellor 'Walter Scheel' had his holiday residence. In summer Maria Alm offers much space for walking tours and sports and has its own 18 hole golf course.
